Eight arrests were made by the Police as part of targeted preventive operations.

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.

As a result of the preventive policing operations, eight persons were arrested for various offenses, such as, among others, illegal employment and exercise of the profession of private security guard without permission from the competent Authority, as well as for various traffic violations.

As part of these operations, during the night, 621 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 952 persons on board were checked. At the same time, 58 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, from which 14 complaints emerged.

During traffic checks carried out, 392 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 14 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged. As part of the police investigations, 11 vehicles were detained.

Of the complaints made about traffic violations, the 132 complaints for exceeding the speed limit stand out. The 31 complaints about driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as the two (2) cases of driving under the influence of drugs, which emerged after preliminary drug tests, also stand out. For driving under the influence of alcohol, 213 vehicle driver checks were carried out, while for driving under the influence of drugs, six (6) driver checks were carried out.

Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue every day, with an enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, in order to protect citizens and ensure public order.

Members of the Police in Limassol arrested a 22-year-old man, to facilitate investigations, as part of the investigation of a case of motorcycle theft and illegal possession of property.

According to the data under examination, last Thursday afternoon, June 25, a motorcycle, owned by a 34-year-old man, was stolen while it was parked in the parking lot of his residence, in Limassol. Two power tools were also stolen from the area.

Shortly after 1.00 yesterday afternoon, following information, members of the Limassol Police Department located the stolen motorcycle in a vehicle parking lot, in an apartment building in Limassol, while inside a car parked in an adjacent location, they found two power tools that resembled the stolen tools.

After the 22-year-old owner of the car was located, a search was carried out in his presence in the vehicle, as well as in his residence in Limassol. During the search, various objects were found, including a motorcycle without registration plates, whose identification data had been erased.

The 22-year-old did not give satisfactory explanations for the possession of the property found in the vehicle and in his residence, as a result of which the members of the Police proceeded to arrest him, for the self-inflicted crime of illegal possession of property.

Subsequently, after evidence emerged against the 22-year-old regarding the case of theft of the 34-year-old's motorcycle, an arrest warrant was issued against him, under which he was arrested and taken into custody.

Members of the Anti-Drug Service arrested a 22-year-old man yesterday, in connection with a case involving a quantity of dried poppy bulbs, with a gross weight of six kilograms and 50 grams.

The above quantity was found in postal parcels and confiscated by YKAN, in the province of Famagusta.

Two other persons, men aged 35 and 30, were arrested on 25/06/2026 for the same case.

The three suspects were brought before the Famagusta District Court yesterday, which issued a seven-day detention order for police examinations.
