ANNITA DIMITRIOU RE-ELECTED






ANNITA DIMITRIOU RE-ELECTED AS SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT - Pafos Live 5/6


Annita Dimitriou was re-elected as the new Speaker of the Parliament with 29 votes against 19 received by Stefanos Stefanou. 8 MPs abstained.

Annita Dimitriou was voted for by the MPs of DISY, the Democratic Party and the Direct Democracy. Stefanos Stefanou, AKEL and Alma. The MPs of ELAM abstained.

Previously, the first round of voting took place among the 56 MPs of the six parliamentary parties, who are participating in the process for the election of the new Speaker of the Parliament.

In the second round, the President of DISY, Annita Dimitriou, qualified with 21 votes and the General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou with 19. The candidacy of Annita Dimitriou in the first round, was supported by Direct Democracy.

We remind you that the process was conducted with roll-call electronic voting for the first time, with the second round following. The candidacies were of Annita Dimitriou for DISY and Stefanos Stefanou for AKEL, but also Christos Christou for ELAM and Nikolas Papadopoulos of DIKO, for the first round.

In the event of a tie between two candidates in a second repeat ballot, a draw would have followed which would have been carried out by the presiding officer of the body.

DIKO MP Zacharias Koulias presided over the first Plenary Session as the elder of the Parliament, in the first Plenary Session that took place on Thursday afternoon.  This was preceded by the assurance of the MPs and representatives of the religious groups.
