WORKS HAVE BEGUN ON THE DANGEROUS APARTMENT BUILDING OF PAPHOS - ITS EVACUATION IS AVOIDED - Filenews 27/5 by Dora Christodoulou

The owners and tenants of apartments in the apartment building on Nikolaou Ellina and Thermopylon streets in the center of Paphos, which had been declared dangerous and its evacuation was requested, have already begun improvement work and it is likely that an eviction order will no longer need to be issued.

This was stated today to "F" by the president of EOA Paphos, Charalambos Pittokopitis, who pointed out that after the meeting held at the end of last week on the issue, the Organization has been informed by civil engineers dealing with the issue that repair and improvement work on the building has already begun with the assignment of the owners and tenants.
Therefore, we expect that the condition of this apartment building will be safe for the living of the tenants very soon and we will probably not have to proceed with an eviction order, he stressed. At the same time, similar works have started in another apartment building in Paphos that was also considered in a dangerous condition, said Mr. Pittokopitis.

In the meantime, the condition of the buildings that were deemed to be problematic, although not so dangerous as to require evacuation, said the president of the EDA Paphos, is currently being examined by the eight civil engineers members of ETEK who contracted with the Organization for this purpose and assessed that the situation in Paphos is controlled and improving in this area.
