The height of the snow in the Troodos ski resort is approaching 10 cm, as heavy snowfall has been recorded since the early morning hours of Monday, May 4, 2026.
According to kitasweather and the picture that prevailed at 02:23, the snowfall was intense, while it was expected to continue at intervals for at least another 6 to 8 hours.
The phenomenon is considered particularly unusual for the season, with kitasweather characterizing it as historic snowfall for the month of May.
Meteorological conditions in the Troodos region remain wintery, with low temperatures, clouds and phenomena on the highest peaks.
At the same time, the Department of Meteorology issued a yellow warning for storms, rain, strong winds and possible hail, with special reference to mountainous and windward areas.
Slippery roads and dense fog in the Troodos area
Due to the heavy rainfall and the sleet of the last few days in the Troodos area, the roads Platres - Troodos, Karvouna - Troodos and Prodromos - Troodos are particularly slippery, while there is also dense fog in the area that limits visibility.
All drivers are asked to be especially careful, move at low speeds, have their headlights on and keep the necessary safety distances.
