Counting down to the Pancyprian Access Examinations (PEP) are not only the approximately 5,100 candidates who will sit them, but also the schools that will be involved in the process of conducting them. The ROPs begin on Monday, June 8, with the course of Modern Greek which, as every year, is attended by all candidates without exception and will be completed on June 26. The Ministry of Education sent instructions and information to schools, specifically to Lyceums and Technical Schools that will operate as examination centers, inviting them to carefully study everything related to the demanding process of these exams.
Among the many issues that schools are informed about, there are also instructions on topics that candidates should know in advance. For example, the ban on carrying a mobile phone or other smart device inside the exam room.
Specifically, for this point the instructions are clear and state:
"The transfer of a mobile phone or any other electronic device (e.g. "Smart Watches"), even if deactivated, to the examination rooms is not allowed. The directors are invited to inform the candidates accordingly and make it clear to them that in case they will carry a mobile phone or other electronic device to the Examination Center, he/she should be left outside the examination room completely deactivated and at their own exclusive risk."
Also, the people in charge of the examination centers, before the start of the examination, should go through all the examination rooms and emphasize that it is forbidden to carry and use a mobile phone or other electronic device or notes during the examination. In addition, those candidates who did not do so will once again ask to hand over their mobile phones or other electronic device or any notes. For candidates who will ignore these instructions and will carry a mobile phone or other electronic device, even if deactivated, or any notes in the examination room, the person in charge of the examination center will follow the procedures of deception or attempted deception as stated in the "On the Conduct of the Pancyprian Entrance Examinations to Higher and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) of Cyprus and Greece Laws of 2017 to 2022". Issues related to deception are examined by a Special Committee.
Another interesting point in the instructions concerns the questions of candidates during the examination. As mentioned, questions that will be presented or in case of a claim of error in an examination essay, no clarification or correction is made during the examination. The competent authority decides at a later stage on the seriousness of the error and determines with instructions to the examiners the way in which the question is marked.
