STRONG REACTIONS TO THE POSTPONEMENTS IN THE PHAEDONOS CASE FROM HIS DEFENCE - Pafos Press 28/5
Strong reactions are being recorded from the Mayor's defense, following the new developments and delays observed in the course of the case.
According to what the defense claims, the case was initially registered in February in Limassol, while, based on the procedural rules of 2024, it should first be registered in Paphos and then requested to be transferred to Limassol.
As reported, Christos Pourgouridis then contacted the competent authorities, highlighting the issue, with the response he received being that "he is right". However, according to the defense, the days passed and finally, on the last day, they were informed that the case would be registered in Paphos. The procedure was withdrawn, re-registered in Paphos and a new summons followed.
On April 2, as reported, they were asked not to appear in Court. On April 21, a new summons was issued, while the case was brought before the Assize Court today, May 28, where the issue of the exception of the member of the composition Nikodimos Fakontis was raised.
The next date was set for June 24, which causes new dissatisfaction in the defense, which believes that the case could have been set earlier, even within ten days.
At the same time, concerns are being expressed that, with the arrival of summer and the possibility of the promotion of Lia Markou, President of the three-member Assize Court, who is reportedly first on the relevant list, its composition may be changed again. This, according to the defense, may lead to new postponements from September onwards.
Within this context, the idea is being expressed by legal circles to establish a three-member Criminal Court to deal exclusively with this specific case, even with morning and afternoon sessions, in order to avoid further delays.
