Journalists were given a tour of the new Archaeological Museum of Cyprus, which is being erected opposite the House of Representatives, on the site of the former Nicosia General Hospital, on Thursday, in order to see the progress of the works up close.
The cost of building the new museum amounts to €144 million, which is considered high for Cypriot standards. However, the tour of the site showed that this amount seems to correspond to both the cultural and architectural value of the project, since it is a particularly complex construction.
According to the latest estimates, its delivery is expected within 2027. The tour of the journalists was undertaken by the Project Manager of the project and director of Cyfield, Andreas Konstantinidis, in the presence of the company's management team, in which Efi Chrysochou also participated.
Mr. Konstantinidis referred to the technical specifications, the innovative construction methods, as well as the special requirements of the project. As he mentioned, the construction of the new Archaeological Museum required a large number of materials, due to its complexity and special characteristics. Indicatively, 1,000,000 unique pieces of timber, of different sizes and geometry, were used only for the manufacture of the moulds.
For her part, Efi Chrysochou stated during the presentation that Cyfield Group remains committed to contributing, with its know-how, specialization and innovative methods, to the implementation of projects of particular importance.
One of the most modern in Europe
In addition to its architectural and cultural value, the new Archaeological Museum of Cyprus is expected to be one of the most modern museums of its kind in Europe. At the same time, as conveyed to journalists by Project Manager, the project will incorporate cutting-edge technologies and will have an almost zero environmental footprint.
It is noted that the construction area of the project covers an area of 39,988 sq.m., while the total area of the museum amounts to 30,000 sq.m. In addition, there will be approximately 250 parking spaces for museum visitors, while access to the surrounding area will be open to all citizens.
The construction of the new Archaeological Museum is proceeding through the cooperation of two of the largest companies in Cyprus, in the framework of the Iacovou – Cyfield (M) Joint Venture.
Under the contract, the two companies will be responsible for the maintenance of the project for a period of two years, while there is a possibility to extend the maintenance for ten years.
The construction site employs 150 workers every day, from 22 different specialties.
