Rainfall in May reached 220% of normal levels by Monday, May 25, with several areas recording more than three times the month’s average.
From the start of the month to Monday, average rainfall in the government-controlled areas reached 43.2 millimetres, compared with the normal monthly level of 19.6 millimetres.
The highest excess compared with normal levels was recorded at Paphos airport, which received 394% of its normal rainfall. Polis Chrysochous reached 375%, Stavros tis Psokas 364% and Limassol new port 360%.
In terms of volume, Stavros tis Psokas recorded the highest average rainfall since the start of the month, with 99 millimetres. Larnaca airport recorded the lowest, with 13.6 millimetres.
Compared with the seasonal average from October 1, average rainfall now stands at 116%, with all areas exceeding 100% of normal levels.
Specifically, average rainfall in the government-controlled areas from October 1 to Monday reached 566.3 millimetres, compared with the seasonal normal of 487 millimetres.
