Two new cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been detected in sheep and goat units in Athienou, according to information received by KYPE on Saturday from the Veterinary Services. Now, the infected units amount to 110.

Regarding red cows and fattened sheep belonging to the rare breeds, the information of KYPE states that the Veterinary Services have not yet made a decision on the matter, which is expected to happen in the coming days.

As the Veterinary Services had announced on Thursday, the second phase of vaccination for cattle has reached 81%, while in sheep and goats the coverage has reached 64% of the total animal population.

As far as pig farms are concerned, all units that are within the restriction zones have been vaccinated with at least the first vaccination, while 4 units in the restriction zones of the province of Larnaca have been revaccinated with a second vaccination.
