The occupancy of the dams today is 39.6%, said Marios Hadjikostis, First Technical Engineer at the Department of Water Development (WDD), adding that "we have a good inflow for the season".
The amount stored in the dams today is 115.2 million cubic liters of water, which corresponds to 39.6%, while last year on the corresponding date the occupancy was 66.7 million cubic meters of water, which corresponds to 23%, pointed out Mr. Hatzikostis.
There are several small dams overflowing, with the total stored quantity of the important dams of the Southern Pipeline amounting to 67 million cubic liters of water or 35.5%, he said, adding that the situation in the Paphos dams is "a little better" with occupancy at 31.2 million cubic liters of water or 43.5%.
Mr. Hadjikostis then noted that "we have a good inflow for the season", stressing that the occupancy of the dams is expected to rise next week, "slowly, however. This is not the time when we will get inflows of millions in a twenty-four hour or a week, but we will have satisfactory inflows for the season," he concluded.
