It was reported to the Police, by two men aged 21 and 22, food distributors, that on Saturday night, [09/05], between the hours of 21.00 and 21.30, while they were in an area in Paphos, they were attacked by a number of people, some of whom were wearing hoods and masks that covered their faces.

According to the complaint, the perpetrators threw stones, sticks and bottles, while one of them was holding a knife.

Due to the attack, the 21-year-old and 22-year-old abandoned their mopeds at the scene, as a result of which the perpetrators caused damage to them. The perpetrators also allegedly stole an order of food, which was in the distribution box, on a moped.

According to the complaint, around 10.30 pm, while the 21-year-old and 22-year-old were in an adjacent area, they were attacked again by the perpetrators, who threw stones and wood at them.

The 21-year-old and 22-year-old reported the attack shortly after midnight, yesterday Sunday [10/05].

The 22-year-old was injured in the leg as a result of the attack. He was examined and treated at Paphos General Hospital and was discharged.

Four persons, aged 28, 32, 32 and 18 who had been arrested in connection with a drug case, were referred to a trial before the Criminal Court on June 15, with the Court ordering that they remain in custody until then.

The four, who were arrested for more than 1 kilogram of cocaine, 150 grams of cannabis and other narcotic substances, face, among other charges, conspiracy to commit a felony, illegal possession of controlled drugs, illegal possession with the intent to supply another person and money laundering.

As reported in Court, in the context of evaluating evidence, members of YKAN stopped for inspection on the afternoon of Monday, April 28, a car driven by the 28-year-old, with the two 32-year-olds and the 18-year-old as passengers.

According to the Police, during the investigation that followed, as well as during a physical search, a quantity of cocaine with a total gross weight of one kilogram and approximately 30 grams, about 150 grams of cannabis, half a gram of methamphetamine and the sum of €3.060 were found.

During interrogation, the first suspect verbally stated that all the drugs found inside the car are his and that the other suspects have nothing to do with it.

The Spokeswoman of the Prosecuting Authority referred to the seriousness of the offenses but also to the necessity of a full and proper investigation of the case. He added that the detention of the suspects is necessary as any release of them will negatively affect the investigative work of the Police, by influencing witnesses or destroying evidence.

Authorities in Paphos have been alerted after a body was found in a rural area near Praitori.

According to the first information, a vehicle belonging to an elderly person was located at the scene.

Authorities are investigating whether this is a person who had been declared missing.

Update - From the Police examinations, it was found that the body belongs to a 79-year-old man who had been registered as a missing person since May 8. The body is expected to be transported for a legal autopsy that will shed light on the exact causes of death. His relatives are aware.

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.

As a result of the preventive policing operations, nine persons were arrested for various offenses, such as, among others, assault and injury, illegal possession of drugs, as well as illegal stay on the ground in the Republic.

As part of these operations, during the night, 400 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 516 persons on board were checked. At the same time, 39 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, from which two complaints emerged.

During traffic checks carried out, 225 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 12 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged. As part of the police examinations, 13 vehicles were detained.

Of the complaints made about traffic violations, the 101 complaints for exceeding the speed limit stand out. The five complaints of driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as the two cases of driving under the influence of drugs, which emerged after preliminary drug tests, also stand out. For driving under the influence of alcohol, 75 checks were carried out on vehicle drivers, while for driving under the influence of drugs two checks were carried out on drivers.

Coordinated policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, in order to protect citizens and ensure public order.

A 16-year-old was arrested yesterday at noon, by virtue of a court warrant, and was taken into custody, who was wanted to facilitate investigations regarding investigated offenses of conspiracy to commit a felony, rioting, illegal possession and transport of explosives, fight and assault, throwing dangerous objects as well as for other offenses of the Prevention and Suppression of Violence in Sports Venues Law.

The offenses in question were committed in Limassol, on 07/05/2026, inside and outside the Nikos Solomonides indoor stadium, during the futsal match, between the teams AEL - APOEL.

For the same case, three more persons are still being sought.

The Police arrested 3 people yesterday for assaulting and injuring a young man in Limassol, as part of an investigated case of conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of an offensive instrument and injury.

Specifically, it was reported to the Police around 5:00 in the morning yesterday by a 20-year-old that, around 1:00 in the morning of the same day, while walking in Limassol, a vehicle stopped next to him, from which three unknown persons disembarked, attacked him and then left the scene.

After the complaint, the 20-year-old was transported by ambulance to the Limassol General Hospital, where he was found to have lung contusions as well as bruises in the abdomen which were sutured. The 20-year-old was detained for treatment with his health condition considered out of danger.

During the investigation of the case, testimony was obtained against three persons, aged 20, 22, 24, who were arrested on the basis of court warrants and taken into custody.

The TAE Limassol continues the examinations.

Update - The three suspects from India admit their presence at the scene of the attack in the early hours of Sunday in Limassol, claiming, however, that the incident started when the 20-year-old victim, who according to them was under the influence of alcohol, was involved in a verbal confrontation with the 22-year-old suspect. According to their claims, the third suspect then intervened and hit the young man with an iron object.

The three suspects presented themselves on Sunday night (10/3) to the Police regarding the attack on the 20-year-old, which took place in the early hours of the morning in the area of Franklin Roosevelt Street in Limassol. They were then arrested and taken into custody.

The three suspects, aged 20, 22 and 24, were brought before the Limassol District Court today. One of the lawyers of the 3 suspects, Andreas Michael, objected to the duration of the detention, however the Court rejected it and ordered their detention for eight days. The offenses of conspiracy to commit a felony, injury and possession of an offensive instrument are being investigated against them.

According to the Police, during the oral interrogation, the suspects placed themselves at the scene. However, they claimed that the 20-year-old was in another vehicle with other people and not a pedestrian at the scene. They reported that the victim was in a state of intoxication and got into a verbal confrontation with the 22-year-old suspect. Then, the third suspect, 24 years old, spotted an iron and after intervening in the incident, hit him. They then entered the vehicle of the first suspect and left, while a total of five people were in the vehicle.

The suspects also claim that they were at a party behind Franklin Roosevelt Street with 13 other people, where they were drinking alcohol.

Another 42 statements are expected to be taken in the case, while the authorities are examining closed circuits of monitoring the area. At the same time, two more persons who were with the suspects are being sought, as well as the iron with which the victim was allegedly hit.

It is recalled that after the complaint, the 20-year-old was transported by ambulance to the Limassol General Hospital, where he was found to have lung contusions, as well as bruises in the abdomen, which were sutured. The 20-year-old is being treated in the Surgical Department of the Limassol General Hospital, with his health condition considered out of danger.

The Police are unravelling the thread around the shocking incident with a driver who allegedly dragged a 65-year-old pedestrian on the highway, carrying him on the windscreen of his car for a distance of more than 2 kilometers last Wednesday. As it became known, the authorities managed to identify the driver and now an arrest warrant has been issued against him.

As the spokesman of the Police, Byron Byron, reported on state television, after evaluating testimonies, the authorities came to the details of the suspect and secured an arrest warrant against him.

At the same time, the rental vehicle that can be seen in a video that circulated on social media was also located. According to the Police, efforts continue to locate the car of the driver who dragged the 65-year-old.

It is recalled that the incident took place on the road between the roundabouts of Rizoelia and Kalo Chorio, in Larnaca. According to the Police, after a traffic collision, the 65-year-old driver approached the second vehicle in order to exchange data.

A little later, a police patrol arrived at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle then allegedly tried to escape, setting his car in motion.

The 65-year-old tried to stop him, as a result of which he ended up on the windscreen of the vehicle, while it was moving on the highway. At some point he fell on the road, slightly injured, with bruises and abrasions. The other driver left the scene.

The British Bases have been put on alert after a body was found in a burning car near the Liopetri fish farm.

Forces from the BB Fire Service, as well as the Police, have rushed to the scene. The scene has been cordoned off and examinations are being carried out to determine the causes of the fire.

According to information from Filenews, all possibilities remain open as to the causes of death.

In a briefing at 12 noon, the British Bases Police confirmed that "a while ago a body and a burning vehicle were found in the area of Liopetri, near the fish farm".

The 22-year prison sentence of Giorgos Christodoulou Zavranonas for a drug case, was annulled on Monday morning (11/05) by the Court of Appeal with a bombshell decision.

The Court of Appeal (criminal jurisdiction) accepted one of the grounds of appeal filed by Zavrantonas' lawyer, Christos Poutziouris, and concerned the composition of the Criminal Court that tried the case.

In particular, the Court of Appeal ruled that the case should not be heard by a different composition of the Court, after the interim decision issued by the first Court, which had essentially laid the foundations for the trial of the case.

Zavrantonas was sentenced on 21/12/2022 to 22 years in prison for possession for the purpose of supplying 15 kilograms of cocaine.

Now the case must be re-registered within 15 days so that its retrial can begin. Until then, Zavrantonas, according to information from Filenews, will continue to be held in the Central Prison, since he will remain on trial until the retrial.

He is also accused of another case involving securing money. This case is set for tomorrow before the Criminal Court.
