THE LAW ON THE NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE WAS PASSED - NEW CENTRAL BODY FOR CO-ORDINATION, PREVENTION, DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT WITH AIM OF A SINGLE NATIONAL STRATEGY - Filenews 2/4 by Marilena Panayi
The House of Representatives today approved legislation for the establishment and operation of the National Cancer Institute, a step that is considered decisive for the reorganization of oncology care in Cyprus and the strengthening of the national strategy for dealing with the disease.
The Institute will act as a central scientific and coordinating body, with the mission of improving prevention, early diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patients, while at the same time contributing to the implementation of a single national policy in the field of oncology and to cooperation between the public and private health sectors.
At the same time, it is expected to play an important role in the nationwide coordination of oncology services, in the collection and utilization of scientific data and in the development of prevention and population control programs. Emphasis is also placed on reducing delays in diagnosis and treatment and in ensuring equal access for patients to modern care services
