The agreement between the Municipality of Akamas and a private company in the sector was signed today, for the supply, installation and proper operation of photovoltaic systems, with a total capacity of 188 KWp in the municipal area.

The Mayor of Akamas, Marinos Lambrou, who signed the agreement with the company, pointed out that it also includes the construction of an Inverter room, as well as the construction of metal canopies on which photovoltaic systems will be installed in the parking lots of the Municipal Stadium of Pegeia.

The project is implemented within the framework of the Interreg Euro-Med Program which is co-financed by the European Interreg Euro-MED Program by 80% and the national resources by 20%. The amount of the contract amounts to approximately €375,000.

The total budget of the project, according to the Mayor of Akamas, amounts to €456,350. The purpose of the project is to reduce energy costs, i.e. to reduce the cost of annual expenditure on public lighting, to utilize the parking lot, which is converted into a productive space for shading vehicles and protection from the sun and weather phenomena without the use of new land for the installation of photovoltaic systems.

At the same time, the environmental benefits are enormous with the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, the contribution of the Municipality to the energy transition and the improvement of the microclimate, concluded Marinos Lambrou.

The signing of the agreement was also attended by the Executive Engineer of the Municipality of Pegeia, Myria Loizidi Papanastasiou.
