According to an announcement by the Department of Public Works, the Astromeriti-Evrychou highway is officially handed over to traffic today, Thursday (after 3 pm).
The project was implemented by the Cybarco–Pharmakas J.V. consortium, under the supervision of the Department of Public Works, and was completed within the revised schedule and within a budget of €74,477,000 plus VAT.
It concerns the construction of a modern four-lane highway, approximately 11.3 kilometers long, starting south of Astromeritis and ending in the area of Evrychou. Among other things, an interchange in the Koutrafa area, a terminal roundabout, as well as important technical works, including a 750-meter-long viaduct, were constructed.
It is estimated that the motorway will improve road safety and reduce travel time to the mountainous areas of Troodos, Solea, Marathasa and Pitsilia.
The public is asked to comply with the new road signs and boundaries and to exercise due caution during the first days of road operation.
