INCIDENTS WITH LAMPS AND FIRECRACKERS - STONE THROWING AT A PATROL CAR, INJURY OF AN 11 YEAR OLD FROM A FIRECRACKER AND ARRESTS OF MINORS - Filenews 12/4
With intensified patrols and controls in all provinces, the actions of the Police to prevent the use of firecrackers, the lighting of lamps and phenomena of juvenile delinquency continued.
As part of these actions, during yesterday's day, Police patrols in collaboration with members of the Fire Service inspected a large number of lamp lighting areas, as well as other open areas where a concentration of timber for lighting a fire was observed. Timber and hazardous materials were removed from these areas, in cooperation with the local authorities.
During the night, increased patrols were carried out in all provinces, while members of the Police responded to a large number of incidents of lighting fires and throwing firecrackers.
In Nicosia, members of the Police were stoned by young people, in the area of Latsia, when they responded to an incident of lighting a fire in garbage cans. The stone-throwing caused damage to the glass of the patrol vehicle. Around 6 a.m. today, during a check of young persons, in an open area in Strovolos, members of the Police arrested a 16-year-old, for the flagrante delicto offenses of public insult, causing concern and resisting arrest.
In the province of Paphos, the Police are investigating the circumstances of the injury of an 11-year-old by a firecracker. The 11-year-old was taken to Paphos General Hospital, where it was found that he suffered a bruise on his right palm and after receiving first aid he was discharged.
In the province of Limassol, members of the Police proceeded to arrest two persons, aged 15 and 16, in whose possession a total of 30 firecrackers were found.
The actions of the Police to prevent dangerous behaviours continue with the aim of strengthening the safety of citizens.
