ALARM IN LIMASSOL - TWO CONTRADICTORY RALLIES AT THE SAME TIME TODAY - ONE FROM FAR-RIGHT GROUPS AND ONE FROM ANTIFA MOVEMENT - Filenews 1/4 by Ioanna Mantziipa
Limassol is once again at the center of two simultaneous and diametrically opposed rallies today. The city's Police Department is called upon to deal with another extremely difficult situation. The two rallies with opposite ideologies will take place on the afternoon of April 1 in close proximity to each other, with completely opposite messages, putting the Police in a state of utmost alert.
One event concerns the antifascist rally organized by the Antifa movement and other organizations. The rally will start at 18:00, at the Monument of the Fallen Resistance Fighters, with the slogan "against fascism".
Half an hour later, a march will take place at the roundabout of Agios Nikolaos, with a possible end at the Grivas Monument, where far-right groups will commemorate the national anniversary of April 1.
For this reason, an operation plan has been drawn up by the Limassol Police Department, while a Crisis Center will also operate. The plan includes dozens of members of the Force, while at the same time at least two squads of the MMAD will be in the area of Agios Nikolaos, as well as other services. In addition, every effort will be made to ensure that the two groups do not come into contact, with the Police monitoring the area and using a drone.
It is clear that the leadership of the Limassol Police Force does not want there to be incidents or tensions and has been put on standby to enforce order and ensure the safety of citizens. The information of Filenews states that, for days, information and various posts on social media as well as activities of the organizations that have invited people to the events have been put under the microscope of the authorities.
