The third checkpoint at the Agios Dometios roadblock was put into operation as of today, as a result of which the third traffic lane was officially opened.
The deputy mayor of Agios Dometios, Konstantinos Yiangou, in his statements to filenews, stated that after many efforts, the third checkpoint at the Agios Dometios roadblock has been put into operation since today.
"We welcome the opening of the third lane and hope that the staffing of all three points by the Police will be satisfactory so that all three can operate at the same time when necessary," he added.
According to information from the Police, the third checkpoint was put into operation from today and will continue to operate on a daily basis, depending on the needs arising from the movements of vehicles at the crossing point.It is recalled that the last phase of the works for the opening of the third lane, which concerned works within the Green Line, were completed on February 16. The project was funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Cyprus. According to UNDP Cyprus, "the upgraded roadblock now includes an additional lane in each direction, as well as a new pedestrian walkway, marking a significant improvement to support daily commute in Nicosia."
