THE HADJIPANTELA EU REPORT WAS VOTED IN FAVOUR WITH 82% - Pafos Live 7/3


The European Parliament's Committee on the Environment sent a clear message in favour of investing in Europe's future, the environment, its competitiveness and resilience. With a percentage of 82%, the interim report of the MEP of DISY & EPP, Michalis Hadjipantelas, on the new EU budget 2028-2034 was voted in favour.

Mr. Hadjipantela expressed his satisfaction, underlining that the report includes provisions that directly benefit Cyprus and strengthen its environmental and socio-economic resilience.

Main points of the report:

  • Protection from natural disasters: Immediate implementation of the aerial firefighting station, fire prevention with natural solutions such as vineyards, as well as strengthening reforestation actions in fire-affected areas with the use of European funds.
  • Water Management and Water Scarcity Response: Strengthening strategies and infrastructure to secure water across the country.
  • Green transition and tackling energy poverty: Support households and businesses through European funding and programs, for investments in renewable energy sourcesenergy upgrade of buildings and reduction of electricity costs.
  • Recycling: Funding local authorities to build infrastructure and improve the circular economy.
  • Access to Financial Resources: Easy access and simplification of financing procedures for farmers, local authorities, and small and medium-sized enterprises.

Mr. Hadjipantela stressed: "Environmental policy is a decisive factor for the EU. By strengthening competitivenesssecurity and sustainable developmentCyprus has a voice in Europe and continues to vigorously assert its interests."
