The Police recommends special attention to the public, in relation to fraud by persons who falsely present themselves as officers of banking institutions and aim to extract money from citizens' bank accounts.
According to new complaints received by the Police, the perpetrators of the fraud communicate with citizens and after allegedly introducing themselves as operators of banking institutions, they falsely claim that there has been a problem with the bank accounts and bank cards of the citizens. The perpetrators ask citizens to report their personal information and the details of their accounts and bank cards, so that actions can be taken to solve the problem.
The aim of the perpetrators is to extract personal and banking data of citizens, with the aim of stealing money from their bank accounts, by conducting online transactions.
The Police recommends caution to the public, who are urged to avoid sharing personal data with other persons and to verify the identity and status of any person who communicates with them, through the official customer support channels of banking institutions.
In case citizens have declared their personal and banking data, they should immediately inform their banking institution, to prevent their illegal use.
