PROTEST MARCH OUTSIDE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE - 'BASES OUT OF CYPRUS, CYPRUS OUT OF THE WAR ALLIANCE'

PROTEST MARCH OUTSIDE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE - 'BASES OUT OF CYPRUS, CYPRUS OUT OF THE WAR ALLIANCE' - Filenews 7/3

A protest march was held against the War in the Middle East and demanding the abolition of the status of the British Bases in Cyprus.

Around 400-500 people participated in the protest march. Initially, they gathered around 15:30 on Saturday afternoon outside the PASYDY building, while the march was directed and ended outside the Presidential Palace.

The banners carried slogans such as, "against war preparation. We are not fighting for any state, capital, power", "Out with the bases of death", "Out with the bases from Cyprus, out with Cyprus from the alliance of war".

The protesters demanded the removal of British bases from Cyprus, an end to the war in Iran, while the slogan, among other things, at the march was "an end to Cyprus' 'complicity' in the genocide in Gaza and military operations in the region".

The proclamation of the organizers for the protest march

Bases out of Cyprus, Cyprus out of the war alliance

As the regional war spreads to many countries, the role of Cyprus in the imperialist plans deepens, putting the inhabitants and people of Cyprus as a whole on a dangerous and destructive path.

The use of British Bases by Western troops has turned both the bases themselves and the surrounding areas as well as the country's critical infrastructure into a military target. At the same time, the continuous facilitations provided by the Republic of Cyprus to the USA and Israel make the country complicit in the crimes committed by these countries.

The narrative that supposedly an alliance with them provides our people with protection is similar to the way in which organized crime sells protection from the threats it creates. This dangerous choice of the rulers has further intensified the already existing militarization of political and social life in the country.

It is necessary to strengthen the anti-war voices, to demand from the government to withdraw support for the imperialists and to promote the position of non-involvement in this war. It is necessary to demand the abolition of the British Bases and, more directly, their non-participation in military activities.

We support all the voices and political forces here, in our wider region, in Europe and globally that resist war and promote cooperation between peoples and peace. We do not accept Cyprus to be a base of war.
