PARLIAMENT GAVE AN EXTENSION TO THE RENEWAL OF VEHICLE ROAD TAX TILL 31 MARCH - TO WHOM IS MONEY REFUNDED? - Filenews 13/3 by Theodora Nikolaou
The Parliament gave an extension to the renewal of traffic permits, voting on a relevant law proposal by Alekos Tryfonidis, which was put to a vote in the Plenary Session of the House in the form of urgency and was approved unanimously.
Problems that arose on the website of the Department of Road Transport caused delays to users with several citizens not managing to renew the registration of their vehicles before the deadline, i.e. until midnight on March 11. Following this development, members of the Transport Committee, after consultation with the Ministry of Transport, co-decided to extend the issuance of the licenses until March 31, 2026.
The regulation also ensures the retroactivity of the decision, so that it will be valid from March 11, in order to give the right to the Department of Road Transport for those who renewed from midnight on March 12 until the publication of the law and were charged to return the money to the citizens, i.e. both the fine and the additional charge. It is reminded that the surcharge is the sum of the amount of €10 and an amount equal to 10% of the registration certificate corresponding to the amount due for the current year.
