Today's results of the analyses of the Veterinary Services highlighted two more infected units, thus reaching 44 with cases of foot-and-mouth disease, according to information from the Services.

The current units are a unit of 16 sheep and goats in Dromolaxia and a cattle unit with 193 animals in Meneou, within the infected zone in the province of Larnaca.

So far, cases have been detected in Livadia, Oroklini, Aradippou, Troulloi, Dromolaxia and Meneou in the province of Larnaca as well as in Dali and Jeri in the province of Nicosia.

The Veterinary Services continue, in the meantime, epidemiological investigations, sampling, tracing and laboratory tests.

According to the update, vaccinations have reached 89% of cattle units and 65% of sheep and goat units throughout Cyprus. At the same time, the second booster vaccination has already begun.

Besides, animal slaughter continues today in Livadia, reaching so far about 21,000 sheep and goats in total and about 2,000 cows.

The Veterinary Services and the Police also continue the coordinated actions to detect illegal trafficking. According to the information, so far four cases have been identified for which the authorities are taking the measures provided for by the legislation.

Condemns the violation of the law and the spread of the virus, the Special Advisory Committee

The Advisory Committee on Farmers' Compensation for Foot-and-Mouth Disease continues its work to define a framework for fair and individualized compensation, as well as for the reconstitution of livestock.

The Commission stresses that close cooperation with livestock farmers is essential for effective crisis management, in full compliance with the instructions of the Competent Authorities, including killing and sampling procedures where necessary. Any action that violates the implementation of the legislation of the European Union and the laws and protocols that derive from it, or even contributes to the spread and spread of the virus, is reprehensible.

It is clarified that a condition for the payment of an advance payment is the completion of the killing, in accordance with the prescribed protocols.

The Special Advisory Committee is composed of representatives of the Department of Agriculture, the Agricultural Research Institute, the Veterinary Services, the administration of the Ministry, the scientific community, agricultural organizations, as well as the cattle, sheep, goat and pig breeding sectors.

The aim is to support those affected and the rapid reactivation of livestock units.
