Around 7 last night, a fire was noticed in a car, owned by a 76-year-old man from the province of Paphos. The vehicle was parked in the courtyard of a vehicle repair shop in the Emba area, owned by a 55-year-old man from Paphos, according to a Police announcement.

The car in question was there for repair purposes after it was involved in a road traffic collision.

The fire was extinguished by the Fire Service after causing extensive damage to the mentioned car.

The scene has been cordoned off and is under police guard in order to carry out further examinations this morning by an officer of the E.M.Y., and members of the Police and Fire Brigade to determine the cause of the fire.

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.

As a result of the preventive policing operations, nine persons were arrested for various offenses, such as, among others, illegal possession of drugs, illegal possession of property, carrying knives, and illegal stay on the territory of the Republic.

As part of these operations, during the night, 954 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 1,124 persons on board were checked. At the same time, 39 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of dealing with phenomena of delinquency, from which nine complaints emerged.

During traffic inspections carried out, 394 complaints were made, concerning various traffic violations, while 33 investigated cases of traffic violations also emerged. Of the complaints made, 37 complaints about driving under the influence of alcohol and five (5) complaints about driving under the influence of drugs stand out. As part of the police examinations, 22 vehicles were detained.

Coordinated policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue daily, with enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, in order to protect citizens and ensure public order.

In relation to the incident involving the 32-year-old indicted for attempted murder, who is said to have left the Republic while criminal proceedings are pending against him, the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Mr. Kostas Fytiris, ordered an investigation into the actions taken by the Central Prisons regarding the handling of the person in question.

As far as the Police are concerned, the Chief of Police has already appointed an investigative officer to conduct an administrative investigation, following instructions from the Attorney General of the Republic.

The Minister requested that the findings of his investigations be communicated immediately upon completion of the procedures.

The Police arrested a 33-year-old man yesterday, as part of the investigation of an arson case.

Around 12 in the morning today, information was received about a fire in a house in Nicosia. The fire, which was extinguished by the Fire Service, completely destroyed the house.

As part of the investigation of the case, the 33-year-old was arrested on a court warrant and taken into custody, who is expected to appear before the Court today.

The TAE of Nicosia continues the examinations.

A robbery took place on Friday afternoon at a kiosk in Germasogeia, Limassol, with the perpetrator threatening the employee with a knife and extracting money from the cash register, before fleeing.

Specifically, around 5.15 pm yesterday, a man entered a kiosk in Germasogeia, wearing a hoodie on his head and a medical mask on his face. Under the threat of a knife, he demanded from the 48-year-old employee the money from the cash register, as well as the money from the cash register of the money exchange office operating in the premises.

After extorting the money, the perpetrator fled.

Members of the Police went to the scene for examinations, while the case is being investigated by the TAE Limassol.

Last night, a 37-year-old man was arrested in Larnaca, after a chase and a vehicle collision, in which two members of the Police were injured.

Specifically, around 10.30 last night, members of the MMAD, during a patrol in an area in Larnaca, noticed a suspicious person, looking suspiciously inside parked vehicles. The members of the Police proceeded to check the suspect, who as soon as he noticed the police, entered a car to escape.

The police called the suspect to stop for a check, however he started the car and, driving it backwards, crashed into a parked car.

Then, a member of MMAD opened the door of the suspect's vehicle to stop the suspect, who, however, started his car, as a result of which he hit the police officer in the leg and then crashed with his vehicle into an EAC pole and the right side of the MMAD patrol vehicle.

As a result of the collision with the patrol car, a member of the Police who was in the driver's seat of the patrol car was injured.

After the suspect's vehicle was stopped at the scene, a member of the MMAD proceeded to arrest the suspect, who during his arrest, shouted and tried to hit the police officer in the face with his hands.

As it turned out, he is a 37-year-old man. He underwent a drug driving test, with a positive preliminary result. During a search of his vehicle, two knives were found, one of which was opening.

The two police officers went to the Larnaca General Hospital, where they received examinations and treatment and were granted sick leave.

This morning, the Larnaca District Court issued a five-day detention order against the 37-year-old, for the purpose of investigating a case of negligent and reckless acts, assault, knife-carrying, negligent driving, driving under the influence of drugs, resisting legal arrest, and other offenses.

The Larnaca Central Police Station and the Larnaca Traffic Police continue the examinations.

A 25-year-old with a Lebanese passport was handcuffed by the Police last night, after there is a red notice against him and he is wanted by the German authorities for terrorism-related offenses.

The young man arrived at Larnaca Airport yesterday from Beirut and had another European country as his final destination.

He was arrested on a provisional arrest warrant and presented to the court where he was ordered to remain in custody until March 13, 2026 to continue the extradition process to the German authorities.

So far, no further information has been given by the Police as to the nature of the terrorism offenses he allegedly committed in Germany.
