BRITISH SECRETARY OF DEFENCE HAS LEFT CYPRUS - Filenews 5/3
The British Secretary of Defense, John Healy, departed shortly after 7.00 tonight from Paphos airport, after the end of his contacts in Nicosia with the Government of the Republic of Cyprus and his visit to the British Base of Akrotiri.
The British Minister of Defense departed on a private jet which was parked in Paphos pending the completion of his contacts here.
The convoy with the Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom arrived at Paphos airport with a strong presence of the Police, with a convoy of dozens of vehicles of the Cyprus Police and the British Embassy.
The arrival of the British Minister of Defense in Paphos coincided with the take-off of two Greek F-16s a few minutes earlier from Andreas Papandreou Air Base. The Greek fighters patrolled tonight in the sea area south and east of Cyprus, as part of their role to control and protect the territory of the Republic, without being on an interception mission as duly clarified.
