31 PEOPLE RESCUED FROM THE AVAKAS GORGE - Pafos Press 25/3


Two separate rescue operations were carried out yesterday in the Avakas Gorge, in the Paphos district, following calls for people trapped due to rising water levels.

The first call was received at 13:13 and concerned 26 people who had gone to the area for hiking and were trapped in a river in the gorge. The Pegeia Rural Fire Station rushed to the scene and, using rescue ropes and life jackets, transported them to a safe place. All are in good health.

A second operation followed at 16:20, following a call for five more trapped people. Three of them were located in the water and moved to a safe place using rescue equipment, while the other two, who were at a different location, managed to exit the gorge without assistance.

The 31 people are in good health.
