Cyprus and Cap St Georges Hotel & Resort have been selected by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) as the ideal destination that meets the strictest international standards for hosting an event of world historical importance. This choice constitutes the highest international recognition and a clear confirmation of the prestige, credibility and organizational superiority that a leading event in world chess requires.
Two years after Toronto, Canada, where the official contenders for the world title emerged, and then Singapore, where history was made with the emergence of the new World Champions, the baton of world chess now passes to Cyprus.
In the context of this great global event, the official draw ceremony of the FIDE international chess tournament will take place today in Paphos, during which the lineups of the matches of the World Chess Championship are determined.
Today's ceremony will take place at 5:00pm, at the Cap St Georges Hotel & Resort, on the beach of Agios Georgios Pegeia.
The draw ceremony further underscores the event's significance for Cyprus' sports, culture, and international visibility.
After the end of the ceremony, a short reception will follow.
