Clear instructions to the heads of Departments of the Municipality of Paphos to respond to any invitation of the Audit Office to hand over any documents or data they possess in relation to the investigated cases concerning the suspended Mayor Phaedon Phedonos, were given by the Deputy Mayor and Mayor of the city Angelos Onisiforou, reminding them that this is their obligation, according to the Press Representative of the Municipality of Paphos Dr. Christos Christou.
Mr. Christou in his statements stated that instructions were given to facilitate the work of the authorities who aim to investigate everything that has seen the light of day lately, such as officials of the Audit Office or members of the Police who will visit the Municipality.
The instructions, he said, are clear and that is what they will do. Asked if officials of the Audit Office have gone to the Municipality of Paphos, Mr. Christou said that this has not yet happened but from the information received by the Mayor, a team is expected soon which aims to investigate some information that has seen the light of day, but also possibly anything else related to the procedures that follow in the Municipality.
Dr. Christou also stated that on Monday afternoon the plenary session of the Paphos Municipal Council met under the chairmanship of the Deputy Mayor and Mayor Angelos Onisiforos.
Yesterday's plenary session, he said, began with a short speech by AKEL municipal councilor Kostas Diplaros on the occasion of his resignation letter from the Municipal Council, without, however, as Dr. Christou explained, actually participating in the discussion of the issues of the plenary. In the letter he submitted, as he said, in protest, he expressed his disagreement with his specific article on the Municipalities Law, saying that he is under contract in education and is not in a permanent position. His resignation, however, as he said, is a given and his replacement by Ioakeim Agathangelou is expected. At yesterday's plenary meeting of the Municipal Council, Mr. Agathangelou did not participate pending his official appointment, he added.
In addition, according to the Spokesperson of the Municipality of Paphos, other issues of a technical and professional nature were discussed, such as the replacement of the positions held by the suspended Mayor in the various committees. He said that after a discussion it was decided to replace him by the Mayor Angelos Onisiforou, in addition to the committees in the EOA and the landfill, whose councils asked the Minister of the Interior for a relevant opinion, that is, whether he can be replaced by the Mayor or if any other procedure will be carried out.
Also, he continued, with the suggestions of the Municipal Councillors, the Audit Committee and the Personnel Committee, which "were essentially underperforming for various reasons", after discussion it was decided to continue their meetings intensively to cover several pending issues. He also said that it was put up for discussion for the Municipal Councillors to tour all the ongoing projects that are now located in the municipal boundaries of Paphos so that they can be informed on the spot about the progress of the projects, what is left and possibly during the tour to identify any other projects that they will recommend to be planned for the future.
He also added that other procedural issues were discussed, as well as the issue of filling the position of conductor of the orchestra of the Municipality of Paphos, which was created with the participation of the Municipal Secretary Themis Filipidis, who participated in the selection process while on pre-relief leave. Thus, it was decided to repeat the process of the personal interview with the replacement of the retired Municipal Secretary with the Deputy Municipal Secretary so that there are no procedural problems in the future, as he mentioned.
