TURKEY - PROCEEDS WITH ENERGY AGREEMENTS WITH 5 COUNTRIES

 Filenews 9 February 2026

A series of energy agreements with Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, Egypt and Saudi Arabia is presented by the Turkish pro-government newspaper Turkiye, arguing that the signatures "strengthen Ankara's position" in energy planning and the Eastern Mediterranean.

According to the report, Turkey is projected as a key country both due to potential energy potential in the Eastern Mediterranean and as a corridor for the transport of resources to international markets. A special mention is made of the $2 billion deal with Saudi Arabia for solar power projects with a total capacity of 2,000 MW.

The newspaper also refers to the upgrading of relations with Egypt, noting that the agreements have "a reflection on the security of the Eastern Mediterranean", as claimed in the same report.

For Libya, there is talk of an imminent licensing round, with Ankara preparing to participate in and implement new energy projects. At the same time, there is an intention for seismic surveys in 2026 in Pakistan, Somalia and Libya, with the possible use of the research ships Oruc Reis or Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha.
