The Department of Road Transport (TOM) refers to dangerous products involving trucks, passenger vans, light commercial vehicles, caravan trucks, passenger cars and passenger semi-trucks/light commercial vehicles, according to information received from the Consumer Protection Service, during the 5th week of 2026. The information was shared on the website of the European Union (EU) Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products (Safety Gate). https://ec.europa.eu/safety-gate-alerts/screen
In an announcement, the TOM calls on the manufacturers, representatives, distributors of the manufacturer, importers and sellers, who may have placed or place such products on the market of the Republic of Cyprus, to inform the Department of Road Transport accordingly.
It notes that, in the event that the products in question are made available in the Republic of Cyprus, the above economic operators must take all necessary measures so that these products are recalled as provided for in the relevant legislation.
The Department also invites consumers, in case they own cars or motorcycles, to contact the manufacturer or the manufacturer's representative or distributor for instructions.
He adds that any possession of the above vehicles should be examined on the basis of the registration certificate of the vehicle they own (stem) and the information included in it (e.g. range of construction, type/model number).
In addition, it calls on consumers, in case they own accessories, where appropriate, to stop using them and return them immediately to the point where they have purchased them (if possible), informing the seller accordingly.
According to the TOM, in the event that a manufacturer, representative, distributor of the manufacturer, importer or seller refuses to comply with the above consumer rights, the consumer is invited to submit his complaint in writing, on the website of the Consumer Protection Service.
He adds that for further information, consumers can contact the Department of Road Transport or at recalls@rtd.mcw.gov.cy email address.
It also states that more details about dangerous products can be retrieved through the Safety Gate website, using each product's warning number.
