STRONG VOTE OF CONFIDENCE IN HADJIPANTELA'S PROPOSALS FOR THE EU HEALTH BUDGET 2027 - Pafos Live 28/2

The proposals of DISY and EPP MEP, Michalis Hadjipantela, received a strong vote of confidence from the Public Health Committee of the European Parliament for the 2027 Budget, with an approval rate of 88%, sending a clear message of broad consensus.

According to Mr. Hadjipantela, "Europe is investing in strong and resilient public health systems, with an emphasis on prevention, early diagnosis and access to care, putting citizens at the center."

The main axes of the proposals include:

  • Autism: Holistic support and prevention from childhood to adulthood, with structures and ongoing care.
  • Rare diseases: Stable funding and strengthening of the European Reference Networks for the exchange of knowledge and data, with the aim of creating a European Agency for Rare Diseases.
  • Cancer and Cardiovascular Health: Targeted funding through Europe's Beating Cancer Plan and Safe Hearts Plan.

Mr. Hadjipantela stressed the need for access to affordable medicines and critical products during crises, as well as the support of cross-border healthcare, so that patients have access to appropriate treatment where it is provided in the EU.

"This is particularly important for small member states like Cyprus, where access to innovative treatments and clinical trials may be limited."

In addition, the MEP's proposals include:

  • Installation of automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) in schools.
  • Promotion of drinking water points in schools and public spaces.

Mr. Hadjipantelas underlined that "early diagnosis, prevention and equal access to care remain critical priorities for all of Europe, regardless of the size of the state or geographical location".
