The Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Fytiris, visited the Anti-Narcotics Service (YKAN) on Friday, on the occasion of the significant success achieved in a recent operation, during which 233.5 kilograms of narcotic substances, weapons and explosive devices were seized.

According to an announcement from the Ministry, during his presence at the Service, the Minister of Justice personally congratulated the members who participated in the operation, expressing his appreciation for their professionalism, methodicality and dedication. Subsequently, he listened carefully to the issues that concern the members of YKAN and the challenges they face in their daily action.

He stressed that this success is a major blow to organized drug trafficking rings and is part of the overall government strategy to deal with organized crime, while pointing out the need to constantly strengthen their operational capacity with modern means, adequate staff and effective procedures.

Mr. Fytiris underlined that "the protection of society and especially the young generation from the scourge of drugs is a constant and non-negotiable priority of the Government". As he mentioned, the successive successes of the prosecuting authorities prove that the State consistently implements a comprehensive plan that combines prevention, intensive controls and targeted operations.

He made special reference to the difficult and demanding work carried out by the members of YKAN, recognizing the dangers they face every day. "You are the firewall of our youth," he said, assuring that the State will be firmly by their side, constantly strengthening the Service with modern means and equipment.

Concluding, Mr. Fytiris assured that the Ministry of Justice will continue to actively support the Cyprus Police to strengthen public safety and shield society against modern forms of crime.
