SCAM REGARDING REDEMPTION OF SUPERMARKET CARD POINTS - Pafos Live 26/2
The Police recommends caution regarding messages allegedly for the redemption of supermarket card points. They are intended to extract money from bank accounts.
The Police recommends special attention, in relation to fraud through false telephone messages (SMS), allegedly sent from a supermarket, under the pretext of redeeming customer card points. The perpetrators of the fraud aim to extract money from citizens' bank accounts.
In the phone messages sent by the perpetrators of the fraud, they include a specific electronic link and invite citizens to select the link in order to redeem the reward points they have accumulated on the supermarket customer card they have. The electronic link leads to a fake website, where citizens are asked to enter their personal information, their bank card details, as well as their user details and internet access password to their bank account.
The result of the fraud is the interception of personal data and passwords, with the perpetrators gaining access to bank accounts and proceeding to steal money, transferring it over the internet, to their own bank accounts.
The Police recommend caution to the public, who are urged not to trust messages of dubious origin and to avoid transactions and sharing of personal data, before the validity of the messages is confirmed.
It is recommended to avoid electronic links contained in messages and to check the authenticity of websites mentioned in them. In case citizens have declared their bank data, through such messages, they should immediately inform their banking institution, to prevent their illegal use.
