MEASURES FOR FOOT AND MOUTH IN PAPHOS FROM TOMORROW

MEASURES FOR FOOT AND MOUTH IN PAPHOS FROM TOMORROW - Filenews 25/2

Eight livestock farms in Timi and Anarita, in the province of Paphos, will be sprayed as a precaution for their protection purposes after the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the province of Larnaca. This was decided by the breeders, in collaboration with the Municipality of Ierokipia, within the boundaries of which Timi is located, in order to pre-emptively ensure that the disease will not reach their area.

For this purpose, it has been agreed to immediately install and operate tomorrow the automatic spraying system for the protection of the eight livestock units in Timi and Anarita. Livestock farmers and local authorities stressed today that although no case has been recorded in the province of Paphos, it is considered vital to take every possible preventive measure in advance since any spread of foot-and-mouth disease to the other end of free Cyprus will have catastrophic consequences for livestock farming and those involved in it.

As the livestock farmers of the two areas of the Paphos district pointed out, in addition to the installation of the automatic spraying system, the creation of a sterilization tank in the livestock premises is also considered an important prevention and precautionary measure, an action that should be done for even better prevention, they pointed out, announcing that they intend to immediately proceed with the work on this project.

The professionals of the livestock areas of the Paphos district are now expressing intense concern and fear about the extent that the problem seems to be taking, which is why they agreed on joint decisions and measures, as well as the need to be in constant communication with each other for immediate measures to be taken depending on the developments.
