The President of EOA Paphos, Charalambos Pittokopitis, characterizes the continuous rainfall of the last few days as particularly beneficial for the water balance of the Paphos district, noting that they significantly strengthen the water reserves in the dams.
As he mentioned, a satisfactory flow to the dams is recorded, with the most characteristic case being the Asprokremmos Dam, where the inflow approaches 10 million cubic meters and the occupancy exceeds 18%.
The flow is also smaller, but noticeable, at the Kannavi and Evretos dams, he added.
Based on the data so far, the situation is expected to be much more manageable compared to the estimates of the previous days, said Mr. Pittokopitis, who appeared cautiously optimistic, expressing the assessment that with proper management there will be no cuts in the water supply to households and businesses during the summer season.
At the same time, he stressed that the recent rainfall and the satisfactory flow to the dams are expected to primarily strengthen the primary sector and farmers, underlining, however, that this does not mean a relaxation in the management of water resources. As he pointed out, sparing, logic and prudence are required in the use of water.
The President of EOA Paphos also said that, despite the improvement, water reserves remain at low levels and the situation is still difficult. He called on both the Agency and local authorities as well as consumers to contribute to reducing overconsumption and water losses.
Finally, he said that so far there is no information about any damage from the recent rainfall.
