BAD WEATHER CREATING PROBLEMS - POWER OUTAGES IN SOME AREAS DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH OVERHEAD NETWORK - YELLOW WEATHER WARNING TILL 4pm TODAY

 Filenews 18 February 2026

Rainfall, dense fog and strong winds affect the road network throughout Cyprus, creating difficulties in travel and increased risks for drivers. In several areas, weather conditions limit visibility, while roads are slippery.

At the same time, severe weather phenomena are causing problems in the electricity supply, mainly in the overhead network, with power outages being recorded in various areas of the island. The competent services are on alert to repair the damage and call on the public to exercise increased caution.

Fog is currently observed on the Larnaca - Famagusta highway, at the height of the village of Pyla, as a result of which visibility is limited.

The Police call on drivers to be especially careful, to drive at low speed, to keep a safe distance from the vehicles in front and to keep the headlights of their vehicles on.

A video that appeared on social networks shows a vehicle parked on a road in Souni, after an EAC pole fell, while the cables apparently fell on the car.

An EAC crew rushed to the scene to disengage the vehicle from the cables, replace the stake and restore the power supply. So far, there is no information about injuries.

According to information from the EAC, there is a medium voltage fault in the province of Nicosia, which affects the communities of Dali and Nisou.

In the province of Larnaca, the communities of Xylotymbou and Ormideia are affected.

At the same time, electricity supply problems are recorded throughout Cyprus, mainly in the overhead network, due to weather conditions.
