MINISTRY OF DEFENCE - ORGANISED A CONFERENCE ON CYBER DEFENCE IN BRUSSELS - Filenews 25/2
The updated cyber threat assessment and current developments in the field of cyber defence were recently discussed in Brussels, at the EU Cyber Commanders Conference, with the participation of the Cyber Defence Commanders of the Member States of the European Union, as well as representatives of relevant European institutions and agencies.
An announcement from the Ministry of Defense states that the Conference was organized by the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the National Guard, in the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
During the work of the Conference, institutional briefings were held by the European Defence Agency (EDA), the European Union Military Staff (EUMS), the Cyber Crisis Coordination and Detection Centre (CIDCC) and the European External Action Service (EEAS), regarding the updated cyber threat assessment, current developments in the field of cyber defence and the existing crisis management mechanisms of the European Union.

In the context of the Conference, a simulation activity for senior decision makers was conducted, based on a scenario of escalating cyberattacks in a complex geopolitical environment. Participants were invited to assess operational data, formulate strategic response options and coordinate actions at transnational level.
At the same time, it is stated, a dialogue was developed regarding the strengthening of European strategic autonomy in the field of cyber defence, examples of operational cyber activity were presented and views were exchanged on issues of interoperability, collective situational awareness and resilience of the European Union against modern and emerging threats.
"The successful organization of the Conference confirms the active role of the Republic of Cyprus in promoting European cooperation in the field of cyber defence and highlights the importance of strengthening the institutional and operational convergence of the Member States, with the aim of ensuring a high level of preparedness, deterrence capability and collective resilience of the European Union," the announcement concludes.
