The trial of a shocking case of sexual abuse of a minor child by her own father as the perpetrator at the Limassol Criminal Court is shocking. The case reached the court after the 6-year-old girl spoke to her mother and revealed the two serious incidents of sexual abuse she suffered.

Today (25/02), in a closed-door procedure, the Limassol Permanent Criminal Court convicted the 58-year-old father. In its judgment, the Court underlines the need for strict protection of children from all forms of sexual violence.

Specifically, the Criminal Court imposed concurrent sentences of five years in prison on the accused, who admitted charges related to child sexual abuse, in violation of the Prevention and Combating of Sexual Abuse, Sexual Exploitation of Children and the Depiction of Child Sexual Abuse Material Law.

According to the facts, the first incident was committed in August 2024, when the minor was sitting with her accused father on the sofa of their house and he covered her and committed heinous acts against her. The second incident was committed in March 2025, when the accused was in the bathroom. The minor entered to use the toilet and then her father closed the door and abused her.

The minor, according to the decision of the Limassol Criminal Court, revealed the incidents to her mother, who in turn told her godmother. The latter immediately contacted the helpline "1440" of the Association for the Prevention and Treatment of Violence in the Family (SPAVO) and made a relevant complaint.

The accused, interrogated a few days later, admitted to committing the offenses.

In imposing the sentence, the Criminal Court emphasized that the Law contributes to the relentless effort of the global community to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse. He also stressed that "a healthy human mind and logic cannot conceive of a father having and manifesting sexual urges and appetites towards his child. The relationships between parents and children with everything that surrounds them do not dictate ways of behaving. They are taken for granted and given. The care, love, affection, protection, guidance that a parent must provide to his child are not imposed by laws and rules, but function and stem from the instinct and innate need of the parent towards his womb. On these foundations the relations between them must be based and consolidated. Any behaviours that go beyond the above frameworks and are not surrounded by them, should be appropriately intercepted, let alone acts that are directed against the sexual function of a minor within the family environment. The defendant in this case, exploited and sexually abused his own 6-year-old daughter on two occasions."

As noted in the announcement of the Criminal Court, the position of the defendant's lawyer that there was no pre-planning or coercion was rejected. As the Criminal Court explained in its reasoned decision, in the first case the accused covered his body and the body of the minor using a blanket (it was August), apparently so that his actions would not be visible, and in the second case he closed the door, thus isolating the minor in the same place where he was already naked. The element of coercion arises from the fact that, among other things, in both cases he grabbed the hand of the minor and thus forced her to touch him in sensitive places. For the benefit of the accused, his admission, his clean criminal record, his cooperation with the Police, as well as his personal circumstances were taken into account, among other things.

The accused was sentenced to 5 years in prison on each charge. Also, a supervision decree was issued against the accused by the Supervisory Authority for a period of 6 years from the day of his release.
