CRIME ROUND UP

 Pafos Live 2 February 2026

Following a relevant complaint to the competent authority of Medical Equipment regarding the disposal of condoms, which may have violated Intellectual Property Rights of a well-known trade name, a joint operation of the Customs Department together with the competent authority was carried out to locate them, in a commercial store and in a warehouse in the province of Famagusta.

From the search carried out in the store and the warehouse, 5,040 pieces of condoms and 418 pieces of lubricants of a well-known brand name were located and retained. The appropriate procedure of transmitting information and photographic material to the legal representatives of the brand followed to determine whether the goods detained violate the Intellectual Property Rights of their customers.

On 30/1/2026, the specific warehouse was again inspected by the Customs Department, where 19,674 pieces of condoms of the same trade name were located and confiscated. The owner of the company, after admitting that these condoms are fakes, abandoned them for destruction.

The investigations of the Limassol Police Department are in full swing into the case of a robbery that took place on Sunday night in a residence in Germasogeia, when hooded men broke into a house, immobilized the domestic worker and left with cash and jewellery, spreading fear to two women.

It all happened around 23:35, when the house's alarm system sounded. An 86-year-old woman lives in the house with her 34-year-old domestic worker from the Philippines.

According to the testimony of the 34-year-old, when she got up to find out what caused the alarm, she came out of her room in the basement and found herself face to face with an unknown man. He pushed her back into the room and, using duct tape and cable ties, tied her arms and legs, shutting her mouth. He then destroyed the mobile phones.

At the same time, the 86-year-old owner of the house, whose bedroom is on the first floor, went down to the ground floor through an elevator and saw three people moving upstairs. One of them returned, shut her mouth and spoke to her in a Cypriot accent. A few minutes later, the perpetrators fled. Immediately afterwards, relatives of the 86-year-old notified the Police.

On-site examinations showed that the entrance and probably the exit of the perpetrators was through an aluminium sliding balcony door, next to the main entrance, which was violated. The sum of €1.500 as well as various pieces of gold seem to have been stolen from a locked bedside table.

As the 34-year-old testified, the man who immobilized her spoke English, wore black clothes and a hood. The 86-year-old said that all three perpetrators were dressed in black and had their faces covered, while one of them spoke with a Cypriot accent, which led her to conclude that he was a Cypriot.

The investigations and examinations of the TAE Limassol are in progress. Closed surveillance circuits are expected to be received from the area, in an attempt to identify the movements of the perpetrators before and after the robbery.

The 5 Greek Cypriots aged 42, 22, 31, 29 and 29, who are alleged to be members of a criminal group providing "protection" to businesses in Larnaca, were detained until their trial. The five were referred last Friday to a direct trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca that will meet on March 19. Their lawyers objected to their detention and the court had reserved its decision for today. Rejecting the positions of the defense attorneys, the court ordered the detention of the five, stating that the offenses they face are serious and that there is a possibility of conviction.

The five face charges that carry up to 14 years in prison. Specifically, they are accused of participation in a criminal organization, participation and acceptance of the commission of crimes, conspiracy to commit a felony, demanding property with threats for the purpose of theft, extortion, money laundering as well as acquisition and possession of firearms. Their defense attorneys objected to their detention and the court reserved its decision for Monday at 8:45 a.m. Until then, everyone will remain in custody.

The alleged action of the criminal network came to light when videos were found on two mobile phones, which had been confiscated during the arrest of a 22-year-old Contracted Soldier of the National Guard, who is on trial for the attempted murder of a 47-year-old businessman last July. It is noted that the businessman in question was referred to trial for interfering in a judicial process, in relation to the case of the shooting in the center of Larnaca and was released on parole.

The 19 videos found on the mobile phones depict various incidents from 2023-2025, in which the 22-year-old allegedly shows large sums of money. As it was said in court during the detention process of the five, the 22-year-old undertrial allegedly trafficked drugs with the proceeds ending up with the 42-year-old. As far as the provision of protection is concerned, a video was found, in which the SYOP appears to show money from the collection of a specific nightclub in the Mackenzie area.

In the house of the 42-year-old, alleged head of the network, a notebook with names was also found, next to which were written sums of money believed to be receipts from nightclubs. The notebook in question is part of the witness material, as are the videos.

Meanwhile, the Police checked the declared financial data of the defendants and found, as the court was told, that they were not consistent with their assets.

Under draconian security measures, the 22-year-old Contracted Soldier of the National Guard, who is alleged to be the perpetrator of the attempted murder of a well-known businessman aged 47 last July, was brought before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca.

The accused replied that he does not plead guilty to the charges he faces, a few minutes after the end of another procedure before the Larnaca District Court. In that procedure (in which there are 4 other defendants) the court ordered that he remain in custody for a case for which he was referred last Friday to trial before the Criminal Court and concerns the alleged action of a criminal group that asked for money for protection. It is recalled that that case began to unfold after his arrest for the attempted murder of the 47-year-old, when a video number was found on his mobile phone.

The 22-year-old answered a non-admission to the nine serious charges that carry up to life imprisonment. These concern attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of explosives, theft and theft. It is noted that a charge of conspiracy to murder was added after the commission of the attempt, which is related to videos found on his mobile phone, which show that he was watching the target after the criminal act. In these videos, he allegedly recorded locations in which the 47-year-old was moving and even made voice descriptions. According to the indictment, the 22-year-old from September 14 to October 13, 2025 conspired with another person in order to kill the 47-year-old.

The 22-year-old's lawyer stated that her client replied that she did not admit, due to the registration of the other case on the basis of the specific witness material. The next hearing was set for March 18.

The young SYOP was scientifically linked to the scene of the attempted murder of the 47-year-old, after his DNA was found in a collar that fell from the perpetrator during his escape from the scene. The Contracted Soldier was initially implicated by testimony, which led him to admit to his circle that he was the one who shot at the 47-year-old. This was followed by his arrest on November 17 in a parking lot in Larnaca. A 9mm pistol was found in his home, among other things, as well as 4 mobile phones. Besides, the 22-year-old also seems to be related to a stolen motorcycle, which was found in a National Guard warehouse.

It is recalled that the attempted murder was committed shortly after 11 am on July 31, while the 47-year-old was heading by bicycle from the Industrial Area of Dromolaxia to the Krasa area. At some point he heard gunshots and saw a person, riding a scooter, shooting at him. The suspect then left the scooter behind and fled on foot.
