BYD, the world's leading manufacturer of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), has strengthened its commitment to its customers in Europe by extending the Blade Battery warranty of its cars to eight years or 250,000 km. The warranty extension has retroactive effect for existing owners as well as for new purchases.
Blade Battery technology is at the heart of all BYD New Energy Vehicles – all-electric (BEV) and Super Hybrid. The cars already come with a six-year or 150,000 km basic warranty, along with a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty with no mileage limitation and eight-year or 150,000 km coverage for the electric motor.
Now, BYD is extending the mileage limit on the warranty for the Blade Battery to 250,000 km, keeping the coverage life at eight years and the guaranteed minimum Health Condition (SOH) at 70%. This mileage increase is designed to further boost user confidence in New Energy Vehicles – and will apply not only to new cars, but also to all existing BYD models. Thus, existing European owners* of a BYD EV or Super Hybrid will automatically benefit from the expanded coverage.
Designed to push the boundaries of traditional batteries through a revolutionary structure, the Blade Battery combines innovative design, high-strength materials, and advanced energy management systems. The result is a unique balance of safety, efficiency, and durability.
The Blade Battery is manufactured using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, a technology that offers greater safety, durability, and sustainability while eliminating reliance on rare earths like nickel and cobalt, reducing the environmental footprint.
After intensive load and endurance testing, the Blade Battery has been proven to exceed 3,000 charge and discharge cycles, with a lifespan equivalent to 1.2 million kilometers.
It has achieved excellent results in extreme safety assessments, such as the nail-penetration test, in which the surface temperature remains below 60°C – 10 times lower than that of a conventional battery. It has also demonstrated excellent resistance to overload tests of up to 260% and tests in an oven with temperatures above 300°C, as well as crush, seawater immersion and fall tests, far exceeding international safety standards.
The blade-shaped design allows each cell to act as a transverse structural element, increasing overall torsional rigidity and providing excellent protection against impacts and deformations. Each compact and lightweight cell is integrated into a module that reduces occupied volume by 50% compared to traditional batteries, allowing designers to maximize interior space and optimize vehicle layout.
Thanks to these innovations, Blade Battery sets a new standard in safety, reliability, and performance, offering significant range — like the 570 km. in the combined cycle for the BYD SEAL Design — or high charging speeds, such as those of the BYD SEALION 7 Excellence AWD, which boasts a maximum DC charging power of 230 kW and can charge from 30% to 80% in just 18 minutes.
