A BLOCKADE OF MINISTRIES AND POLICE AT AN ILLEGAL EVENT IN TROODOS - REQUEST WAS REJECTED BUT THEY SET UP PLATFORM ILLEGALLY - Filenews 28/2 by Angelos Nikolaou
An alarm has been sounded by the competent authorities of the Republic after the insistence of organizers to hold a large musical event in Troodos, despite the fact that the relevant request has been categorically rejected in writing.
The Ministries of Interior and Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment issued a joint statement-warning, stressing that the event is illegal.
The event entitled "Above the clouds", which is heavily advertised on social media for tomorrow, Sunday, March 1, 2026, has not secured any of the necessary permits.
The most worrying element, apart from the lack of permits, is that the organizers proceeded to place a platform and other equipment inside the Troodos Forest. In particular, the site chosen falls within the Natura 2000 network of protected areas, which makes any arbitrary intervention an environmental crime.
In a strict letter to the organizers (A. & G Utopia Music Events Ltd) dated February 27, 2026, the Limassol District Administration, on behalf of the Ass. Eprechou, emphasizes that the event violates the terms of a lease agreement between the Department of Forests and the Cyprus Sports Organization.
It is underlined that "in no case is the organization of the above musical event legitimized, which violates the terms of the lease agreement signed between the Department of Forests and the Cyprus Sports Organization. You are called upon to immediately take the required actions on your part to move the platform and the equipment," the letter states.
The issue is in the Police
The issue has already been officially reported to the Cyprus Police, which in cooperation with the Fire Service and the Department of Forests, is taking the appropriate actions to prevent the event.
The authorities are clear that with a view to the safety of the public (due to the location) and the protection of the natural environment, the event will not be allowed to take place. The organizers have been asked to immediately inform the public who purchased tickets about the cancellation of the event, otherwise all appropriate legal measures will be taken against them.
