THE PAPHOS-GERMANY AIR CONNECTION IS BEING STRENGTHENED

 Filenews 5 January 2026

A significant strengthening of Paphos' air connectivity with the German market for the summer season of 2026 is recorded by the Paphos Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP), highlighting the upgrade of the flight schedules of Ryanair and Lufthansa.

According to ETAP, Ryanair is substantially strengthening its flight work, offering an increased number of direct flights from German airports to Paphos International Airport. As mentioned, this development is expected to facilitate access to the destination, boost demand and further contribute to the consolidation of Paphos as an attractive Mediterranean destination for German tourism.

Based on the company's flight schedule, it is planned to operate nine inbound flights per week. Specifically, two flights per week will be operated from Berlin-Brandenburg, two from Cologne, two from Düsseldorf and three from Memmingen-Munich.

At the same time, Lufthansa is planning three regular weekly flights connecting Munich and Paphos during the summer season of 2026. ETAP notes that the presence of the German airline expands travel options, both for visitors from Germany and from other markets connected through its international network.

At the same time, increased mobility is also recorded on the part of tour operators, who are considering strengthening their programs to Paphos.

The director of ETAP Paphos, Nasos Hatzigeorgiou, said that the strengthening of air connections with Germany is a development of strategic importance for the region. As he pointed out, the new and increased flights create prospects for further tourism development, extension of the tourist season, attraction of quality visitors and strengthening of the local economy. At the same time, he expressed ETAP's thanks to the airlines for their trust in Paphos, noting that efforts to enhance connectivity will continue in cooperation with Hermes Airports, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and other partners.

ETAP underlines that, despite the prospects, Cyprus' performance in the German market remains limited. As reported, out of the approximately 75 million outbound trips of the Germans, Cyprus attracts about 250,000 arrivals, a percentage of 0.33%, while Crete records 1.6 million arrivals, Rhodes 1 million and Mallorca 4.3 million.

In light of the developments, ETAP is adapting its action plan, with participation in the international tourism exhibition FREE Munich 2026 in January, consideration of adaptations of the digital campaign with a focus on the German market, contacts with tour operators and airlines for joint initiatives, as well as hosting actions of German journalists, bloggers and tour operators in Paphos.

As noted, Paphos continues to strengthen its position as a competitive and quality Mediterranean destination, showcasing authentic experiences, rich cultural heritage and upgraded tourist infrastructure.
