THE IMPORTANCE OF GERMANY FOR CYPRUS

Filenews 19 January 2026

A few days ago, it was announced that our country's air connection with Germany is expected to be strengthened even more. A development that responds to the achievement of the goal of attracting even more German tourists.

Specifically, it was announced that Ryanair is substantially strengthening its flight work, offering an increased number of direct flights from German airports to Paphos International Airport.

In particular, it is planned to operate nine inbound flights per week. Two flights per week will be operated from Berlin-Brandenburg, two from Cologne, two from Düsseldorf and three from Memmingen-Munich. At the same time, Lufthansa is planning three regular weekly flights connecting Munich and Paphos during the summer season of 2026.

At the same time, increased mobility is also recorded on the part of tour operators, who are considering strengthening their programs to Paphos.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Costas Koumis, has repeatedly stressed the importance of this market for Cyprus since: It can contribute significantly to the strengthening of winter tourism.

It is the largest economy in Europe. It is currently the third largest market in the world in terms of outbound tourism. All of the above reasons explain why this market can be a key to further strengthening Cypriot tourism.
