The intervention of the head of the Athens Misdemeanor Prosecutor's Office was caused by the blackout in the Athens FIR.
Aristides Koreas, on the occasion of the chaos caused yesterday at the airports, ordered an urgent preliminary investigation, which will be carried out by the Cybercrime Department.
The purpose of the investigation is to investigate the commission of the offense of dangerous interference in aircraft transport, but also how the interference was caused in almost all frequencies of the Athens FIR.
There was no risk to flight safety, reiterated the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas, speaking to ERTNews, about the technical problem that created "noise" on multiple frequencies and affected communications within the Athens FIR.
"Heads will fall"
Answers will be given immediately about the cause, as, as he said, this has not been fully clarified, while the sworn administrative examination for attribution of responsibilities is underway, so that the problem does not recur. "Yes, heads will fall," he even answered the journalists' question.
Passengers are entitled to compensation for cancellations and delays, he also said, adding that air carriers for their part have the right to a similar claim.
Christos Dimas referred to the action and modernization plan, "so that by 2028 all issues will have been modernized".
"We do have old systems, but they are in accordance with European standards. We have agreed with the Commission on a specific action plan that we have been implementing since May 2025, with a progress report every six months, and all issues have been on the table for the last eight months with the Commission and all stakeholders," said the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport.
