THE A&E ARE FULL DUE TO INFECTIONS - INTERRUPTION IN THE GESY SOFTWARE THIS MORNING ADDED TO PROBLEMS

Filenews 12 January 2026 - by Marilena Panayi

Seasonal infections have caught us for good with the flu grinding our teeth, personal doctors' offices and private pharmacies filling up and the number of people needing hospitalization, day by day, getting bigger.

During the weekend, as the spokesman of the State Health Services Organization, Charalambos Charilaou, told Filenews, "a significantly increased attendance was recorded compared to the previous week in the Accident and Emergency Departments, while there is also an increase compared to the previous period in the number of patients requiring hospitalization".

The flu seems to dominate over the rest of the winter viruses, while many are citizens who come to pharmacies in order to execute the prescriptions that their doctors issue them, depending on the case, the infection and their needs.

But at a time when pharmacies are full, since this morning, with people, "the GHS software, as unfortunately happens very often on Mondays, presented problems today as well", the president of the Pancyprian Pharmaceutical Association, Plutarchos Georgiadis, told filenews.

"It is a problem that must be solved because you realize that citizens are suffering and patients are certainly suffering as well."

It is reported that complaints about the operation of the software had been made to Filenews this morning by personal doctors who were unable to prescribe for their patients.
