PAFOS REGIONAL BOARD OF TOURISM MEETS WITH THE ENVIRONMENT COMMISSIONER ON THE INCLUSION OF AN AREA OF PAFOS IN THE UNESCO WORLD NETWORK OF BIOSPHERE RESERVES
The Pafos Regional Board of Tourism (PRBT) and other stakeholders were officially informed today by the Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare, Ms Antonia Theodosiou, about the project and the progress of the procedure concerning the signing of a contract with a designated contractor. The contractor will be responsible for preparing the application for the Pafos area for its inclusion in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserves Network.
This development constitutes a substantial and necessary step in the preparation of the application, which aims to highlight Pafos (32 communities) as an area that combines the protection of natural heritage, sustainable development, and the active participation of local communities.
The Pafos Regional Board of Tourism welcomes this development and expresses its readiness to contribute, within the framework of its responsibilities, by providing know-how, data, and supporting material related to tourism, sustainable development, environmental management, and the promotion of the area’s natural and cultural assets.
The prospect of including communities of Pafos in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserves Network strengthens the international profile of the area, creates new opportunities for quality and responsible tourism, and aligns with the strategic direction towards green transition, resilience, and balanced development.
The Pafos Regional Board of Tourism will continue to closely monitor the progress of the process and to support every initiative that contributes to the long-term sustainable development of the Pafos region.
