2026 brings with it changes in home green energy as well. The simple answer is that net metering offers more benefits to consumers, since they essentially use the grid as an indirect storage of the energy they produce and later in the afternoon and evening, they draw back as much energy as they need by offsetting the kilowatt hour.
In contrast, in net billing, the offsetting is based on the price of the kilowatt hour at the time it is produced and at the time it is drawn from the grid. Thus, in this case, the consumer will be asked to pay the difference in price in relation to the moment he produced and gave to the grid and the price of the kilowatt hour at the time he drew energy from the grid.
So, first of all, net metering is advantageous, but essentially both are in the interest of the consumer, rather than not having any photovoltaics at all.
