The Municipality of Polis Chrysochous and the Municipality of Akamas are jointly designing a modern and innovative tourism product for western Cyprus. The wider area is under study as a single tourist unit, under the name "The West Land of Cyprus".
In this context, a meeting was held with the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Mr. Nikodimos Damianos, during which the vision for the creation of a digital tourism ecosystem that will utilize modern technologies and artificial intelligence applications, with the aim of improving and upgrading the visitor experience in the region, was presented. The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Polis Chrysochous, Mr. Yiotis Papachristofi, the Mayor of Akamas, Mr. Marinos Lambrou, the President of the Tourist Committee of the Municipality of Akamas, Mr. Xenios Xenophontos, the President of the Tourist Committee of the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous, Mr. Chrysanthos Pafitis and the Municipal Secretary of the Municipality of Polis, Mrs. Doxa Oikonomidou.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that this initiative is not about the creation of a simple website or promotion application, but aims to form an integrated digital ecosystem, which will be able to evolve, utilize data, integrate innovative technologies and offer smart, personalized experiences to visitors.
The Deputy Minister of Innovation and Research expressed a positive response to the initiative and pledged to technically support the effort, through the provision of a specialized technical consultant, so that the project can be developed with proper technological architecture and a modern innovative approach.
At the same time, the project will be implemented in conjunction with a presentation and actions implemented by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, ensuring the connection of technological innovation with the overall national tourism strategy.
The initiative of the Municipalities of Polis Chrysochous and Akamas aspires to create a model model of smart tourism, which will strengthen cooperation between local government, businesses and visitors and will be able to be a guide for similar applications in other areas of Cyprus.
