A white veil of snow covered the mountainous communities of the districts of Limassol and Nicosia from the early hours of Tuesday (13/1), giving an impressive winter setting. Residents woke up to see the snowfall, with the roofs of houses, streets and trees dressed in white.

The temperature recorded a noticeable drop, while in some areas from the morning, heavy snowfall was observed, making it difficult for traffic.

Despite the low temperatures, the citizens enjoyed the rare phenomenon for the area, capturing images of the winter landscape.

Indicative are the images and videos posted on the page "Weather Friends of Cyprus". Mandria in the Limassol district, Kato Platres, Agros, Pedoulas, Palaichori and Spilia, among others, were dressed in white.

In a statement, the Police speaks of a change in the weather scene, stating that its members carry out continuous patrols and checks on the condition of the road network. As it is pointed out, the effort focuses on the early detection of any problems and the taking of the necessary measures, with the aim of ensuring the smooth and safe movement of drivers.

Which roads are affected

The roads leading to Troodos (Platres – Troodos, Karvouna – Troodos and Prodromou – Troodos) are open only to vehicles equipped with anti-skid chains or four-wheel drive, due to snowfall.

  • Palaichori – Agros
  • Pharmaceuticals – Roads
  • Fterikoudi – Alona – Platanistasa
  • Alonas – Polystypou
  • Polystipou – Lagoudera
  • Lagoudera – Chantria

It is worth noting that due to heavy rainfall on the Limassol - Paphos highway, Pissouri - Avdimou - Paramali area, drivers are asked to be especially careful, drive at low speeds and keep a safe distance from the vehicles in front.
