Although last year's contacts with a private businessman for the chartering of a small train that will run from the parallel tourist area of the Municipality to the central square of Geroskipou did not come to fruition, the authorities of the Municipality of Ierokipia are proceeding again with contacts and plans for the implementation of this pioneering and ambitious thought in order for the thousands of tourists in the area to get to know the monuments and other points of interest of Geroskipou instead of only its beach, as is the case today.
Speaking to Filenews, the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Ierokipia, Andreas Siikkis, pointed out that the train is already in Cyprus and the municipal authority is working on the terms of a possible permanent cooperation with the private importer in order for tourists from the hotels on the beach of Geroskipou to have the opportunity to go to the center of the Municipality, where there are important monuments such as the church of Agia Paraskevi, the Folklore Museum, the Byzantine Museum of the Metropolis of Paphos, Kato Vrysi and many more.
The new Municipality of Ierokipia and especially its capital, Geroskipou, needs a full restart, since in recent years it has lacked projects and imagination, points out Mr. Siikkis, speaking of a very important tourist flow to the Municipality which, however, is limited to hotels and the beach, completely ignoring the attractions offered by the wider area. For this reason, he stressed, it is our priority to develop an overall plan with financial incentives to the owners, so that their premises can be utilized, offering them the opportunity to expand into new areas of action, for example by creating small traditional cafes, cafes, hangouts where the tourist and we can have the choice to enjoy our coffee or food.
If our effort for the roller coaster is successful, he concluded, I estimate that Geroskipou will gain very significant momentum and a new breath.
