GEROSKIPOU SWIMMING POOL - AFTER YEARS, IT WILL REOPEN IN 2026

Filenews 26 January 2026 - by Dora Christodoulou

With the submission of bids for the reconstruction of the Geroskipou Olympic Swimming Pool having been completed, the Municipality of Ieroskipia in collaboration with the CSO are now proceeding after evaluating the bids to promote the important project as soon as possible.

The Geroskipou Olympic Swimming Pool, costing €7 million, which was inaugurated during the presidency of Tassos Papadopoulos in 2004, has been closed since May 2022 due to serious problems identified and for which it was necessary to temporarily install columns to prevent the pool from collapsing.

The tenders announced in the meantime include the replacement of the walls of the pool which had serious problems of stability and oxidation with concrete walls, repairs to the pavement, the canal around the water tank, the tightness of the tank, new electrical and mechanical installations and other smaller repairs, with a total cost of €360,000. Most of the cost will be covered by a fund from the CSO.

The Geroskipou swimming pool is considered a vital infrastructure for the Municipality and the sports infrastructure of the Paphos district, since due to its Olympic dimensions it is used by national teams and clubs abroad for preparations and training. At the same time, these missions contribute to a significant extent to the stimulation of the local economy with the accommodation of large delegations in the hotel units of Geroskipou.

The complete repair and reopening of this important sports infrastructure project within 2026 is considered vital for the promotion of sports tourism in Paphos, in addition to the practical benefit for local athletes and organized groups.
